Strong client relationships are at the heart of every successful financial planning practice, and this year’s Client Appreciation Event was a perfect reminder of why those connections matter.
Held at the award-winning Nicollet Island Pavilion, an iconic Minneapolis venue rich in charm and history that provided the perfect setting for advisors to thank clients for the trust and confidence they place in them. With its exposed brick walls, soaring industrial ceilings, and stunning views of the Minneapolis skyline, Mississippi River and historic riverfront bridges, the venue offered a memorable backdrop for an evening of connection and celebration.
The event welcomed nearly 380 attendees, making it one of the largest gatherings in its history. Despite heavy rain for nearly half of the evening, turnout was strong, a testament to the value advisors and clients place on the event and each other. Attendees also had access to complimentary shredding services. This popular offering gave clients and business owners a convenient and secure way to dispose of confidential documents, helping protect sensitive information and reduce the risk of identity theft and fraud. By combining meaningful client experiences with practical value-added services, the event reinforced advisors’ commitment to supporting clients both personally and financially.
For advisors, this annual event provides an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day business of financial planning and simply spend time with the people who make their work meaningful. For our team, the goal is simple: make it as easy as possible for advisors to host a memorable client event without the burden of planning and logistics. By handling the details, we allow advisors to focus on what matters most: strengthening their relationships.
Building Connections Beyond the Office
One of the most rewarding aspects of the event is seeing familiar faces return year after year. One memorable moment came from reconnecting with a couple who have attended the event for many years as clients of advisor John Layton, founder of the Layton Team.
“I’ve chatted with them every year since I’ve been involved with this event, now in my ninth year,” the event organizer shared. “It’s always fun to catch up with them. One of the things I love most is getting to know clients throughout this process and seeing those relationships grow over time.”
Throughout the evening, guests mingled, laughed, and connected with advisors, friends, and fellow attendees. “Watching conversations flow naturally and seeing people enjoy themselves was a reminder that the best events are often the ones where guests never have to think about the work that went on behind the scenes to make it happen.”
Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Company
The evening featured an impressive selection of heavy hors d’oeuvres designed to offer something for everyone. Guests enjoyed chicken skewers, beef selections, charcuterie boards, vegan-friendly options, and fresh salsa and guacamole with chips.
Dessert was a highlight of the night, with cheesecake bites, dessert shooters, and cake pops quickly becoming crowd favorites.
An open bar added to the festive atmosphere, offering everything from handcrafted cocktails and premium spirits to canned beverages and creative non-alcoholic mocktails, ensuring every guest had a drink option they could enjoy.
Growing Participation Across Firms
This year’s event brought together advisors from several participating firms, including:
- RiverFront Group
- The Basballe Group
- The Bergstrom Group
- The Layton Team
- Mike Branch and his team
- John Dritz
- Jeff Thorup
The growing participation from advisors and their firms reflects the value of creating meaningful experiences that extend beyond traditional client meetings.
More Than Just a Client Appreciation Event
While the evening was designed first and foremost as a gesture of appreciation, shared experiences create opportunities for more personal conversations, strengthen trust, and open doors for future discussions about financial goals and planning needs. Most importantly, the event demonstrated something advisors know well: successful relationships are built on more than portfolios and performance. They are built on trust, gratitude, and genuine connection. As attendance continues to grow each year, the Client Appreciation Event remains a powerful way for advisors to thank their clients while creating memorable experiences that reinforce the relationships at the center of their business.
