Mike Gustafson


With nearly 30 years in the financial planning industry, Mike specializes in comprehensive financial planning for both individuals and businesses. In particular, he’s versed in the areas of retirement planning, investment management, estate planning, risk management, and tax related issues. Mike shares and respects his clients’ ideas for handling their money. He provides service through ongoing client relationships.

Mike graduated with a B.A. degree in Business Management from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition, to maintaining 12 separate securities and insurance registrations, Mike also continued his formal industry education through the College of Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado to achieve the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation (CFP®). The CFP® designation identifies an elite group of financial planners who have met the educational, experience, and ethical standards established by the International Board of Standards and Practices for Certified Financial Planners, Inc. (IBCFP). In addition, Mike continues to be a member of The Financial Planning Association (FPA).

Services & Experience:

Mike specializes in working with people who are in retirement or approaching retirement to create strategies to help reduce risk and generate income. Many people that are retiring or are retired have an array of financial professionals they work with (accountants, insurance agents, and stock brokers) that do not coordinate services or strategies. This can create many financial inefficiencies. As a financial advisor, it is Mike’s job to assess and evaluate all of these aspects of his client’s financial picture.

After understanding the goals of his clients, Mike recommends, helps them decide on, and implements strategies to help them achieve their goals. Mike implements these suggested strategies through a financial planning process which can include:

  • Asset management services
  • Retirement timing issues
  • Stock options & deferred compensation strategies
  • Portfolio income generation
  • Gifting

This process, in most instances, will result in a more comprehensive coordination of services which usually results in financial efficiencies and cost reductions. In summary, Mike supports his clients through three phases:

  • Assess, analyze and evaluate all components of their financial picture and develop a financial plan with a strategy.
  • Support the implementation and execution of the plan agreed upon.
  • Continue to monitor and track his client’s financial plan.

Mike uses his independent status to gain access to what he thinks are the best products in the marketplace to help achieve his client’s objectives.
